Thanksgiving Blog

Labor Thanksgiving Day (Kinro Kansha no Hi) is actually a modern name
for an ancient ritual called Niinamesai, a harvest festival. This holiday was
established in 1948 to give thanks to workers, both blue collar and white.
Workers need our thanks. Think about a plate of food. Who prepared the food?
How did the food get to your house? Who delivered it to the grocery store?
How many people actually handled your food before it appeared on your plate?
If we really think deeply about how dependent we are on others for our lives,
we would begin to feel a deep sense of gratitude. We need to be grateful for the
things that we have and to realize how dependent we are on others. Without the help of others, our lives would be arduous indeed.
